Confidence in Prayer

 

As I read through this poem it smacked me in the face with how prayer truly works. God always answers our prayers, it just, oftentimes, is not in the form that WE would deem acceptable or understandable.

What I have learned is that when you pray, you keep your mind and eyes open for “ALL” answers, so as not to miss any of your blessings. I’ve coached and spoken with many who stated, specifically, that they did not receive an answer to their prayers and they felt as though God was ignoring them. As I listened to their story, I was happy to show them how God not only was listening, actively, but He was indeed answering, repeatedly. The cause of their dismay was from life getting in the way, ie. distractions, or not understanding/misinterpreting the answer, or just flat out refusing the answer all together (because it was not the answer YOU wanted). Trust God, be open and receptive to HIS words and you will be in direct receipt of more than you could ever pray for. This is an expansive topic, so I will speak more on it later, check back to soon.

Bringing in the New Year… With a Plan

I thought long and hard about how excited I am about the New Year, what it represents to me and how I want honor it and step within on the right note. I figured I am already doing it partially right as my oldest son is with me during this holiday, which is a huge treat. I figured that I spent last New Year’s visiting with family, bubbly, music, a little dancing… it was nice, but I really want something more this year. I want to bring in the New Year with a newer, fresher outlook on life and New ways of thinking and New Actions to take. I figured I would go all out and try something that I have never done before.

I am going to stay AT HOME, with my children, praying and blessing my home while inviting positive direction, energy, feelings, emotions, positive growth and development, … a positive life in. You see, I’m a huge fan of New Year’s celebrations, and due to the overwhelming amount of things I hurdled in order to get to 2014’s door, I am choosing to  focus my attention on saying good bye to all of those hurdles and HELLO to the outpouring of blessings and positive energy 2014 brings.

It takes a lot to remain focused on what’s positive, when you are surrounded and compounded, almost daily, with distractions. BUT, if you would just keep your focus you will see that the distractions have to sit down and be still at some point in your journey. So why not NOW!

So, how do you plan for your New Year/New You?

Another way I plan, is to literally plan. I actually sit down and write out my goals and objectives, both personal/interpersonal and professional, and then read them off out loud. This process helps to aid in committing to memory and speaking life to your plans, for them to transform into reality.

You see, once you have written them and then spoken them, now it is your bodies turn, by way of your subconscious mind, to start getting in line with and positioning you for your opportunities of greatness.

Once you have crossed over the threshold of 2014, you then revisit your goals every so often (daily, weekly, monthly) to make sure that you are staying on track. What happens, is this, you write it, say it, your body starts finding the path to it. Now, it is your minds job to RECOGNIZE and call the “paths to your dream” by their rightful name (Identification).

You MUST recognize the paths that are being laid out before you; those paths that are right and heading you in the correct direction and those paths that are detractors or distractions from your goals. You have to evaluate, weigh and determine what is what and chose accordingly.

Now, this is quite a bit of information for one post. But I wrote it to make sure that those of you who need it have a way to get started out on the right foot. The POWER of CHOICE is at your disposal and use. Choose wisely.

Unlicensed Teenage Driving!!!!!

I was recently presented with the issue of an unlicensed young adult driving a friend’s car. This particular youth is under my care and partial supervision; they are 18 now. At a holiday function, my youth proclaimed to the family, “I’ll drive!”

As soon as the words fell from their lips, I spoke up and said, “you DON’T have a drivers license“, to which their uncle responded, “DON’T do it, driving without a license is not good”. The youth, then responded, “ok, well who is going to drive then”. You see this youth has been “driving under the radar” for some time now. Neither parent was aware that our youth was doing this. So, what can be done? What can I do for my determined, yet, not truly convinced about conventional responsibility, youth?

I think to myself and come to the decision that, I am REQUIRED to protect my children and youth while providing them with the tools that they need to succeed and produce positively in life. So if I am doing what is right, then I am obligated to help them achieve “LEGAL DRIVING” status. I write this because this particular youth I did not birth. As I am somewhat of a self-proclaimed disciplinarian, I tend to lead with the “long arm of the law” when it comes to getting my household in line.

This approach, especially when dealing with youth, who have been left to their own devices for a good part of their life, can be met, more often than not, with EXTREME resistance. Well….. SO BE IT! I will shutdown all avenues of unlicensed driving privileges by any means necessary, including – but not limited to talking to parents of friends and family soliciting and securing their support. The end result will be a clear path to Drivers Ed class online for $28.50 and Drivers Testing for $25 (check your local DMV for your state fees). It’s such a small price to pay for independence and one additional step closer to responsible living and maturity. Even though they may like, or even treasure the path of least resistance, it can sometime lead to illegal, dangerous and irresponsible choices, decisions and continued dependence. A little bit of consistent, unrelenting discipline goes a long way to getting and keeping your youth on the path that is positive and right.

6 Steps to Cope with Extreme Stress

Life comes at you hard! You try to keep moving, but you feel you are trampled underfoot, by the series of events overwhelming you. Trying to support your family, have some time for yourself and personal nurturing/care, keeping the bills paid and managing to spend as much time as possible with the your children. You’ve got deadlines and quotas to meet, you might even have to travel far to get to and from work, which further adds stress and strain on your already taxed life and mental well-being.

HOW DO YOU COPE? How do keep your head well above the water, in order to see life clearly, and navigate your ship of life around each situational iceberg? How do you keep yourself from losing your mind? How do you keep your cool and manage yourself and you stress?

I have the tools that may help you management and even reduce/remove your stress:

  1. Talk/Communicate – Speak to a trusted and confidential source, this may be a friend, family member, life coach, spiritual advisor, and/or a licensed counselor. Talk to them about what’s going on that is causing you stress. Talking your situation out releases pent up space, being held hostage by the stressor, in your soul. The person that you are speaking with will provide a sound board and empathetic listening. Some may provide tools, resources and/or advice/methods for you to use to gain control of whatever is being a nuisance to you. It also helps for you to address the stressor directly, in a non-confrontational way and when you are calm, cool and collected. Speaking assertively and without anger to the individual(s), when addressing your concerns is an effective course of action. With the assertive step, you are taking a stand in defense of yourself, which is a critical step in the process. So, talk it out.
  2. Write – Blog, poetry, poems, letters, prayer journaling, are all great ways to get your thoughts out of your head and on to a surface that faces you. Once you have written out your fears, anxieties, depressive modes, stressors, anger, frustrations, annoyances, etc. you can then “SEE” the situation more clearly. The issue is no longer rumbling around in your head, which has left space in your brain for free thoughts and productive problem solving to set up shop and begin to work. I have a saying, “I write to keep myself sane and to release the pressure in my brain.” So, get it OUT of your head, through the “OUT”let of writing.
  3. De-Clutter – If you are feeling as though you are closed in, trapped, having lack of space, confined, and/or restricted give yourself more space to work with and/or more organized space to be in. Sometimes just straightening up a bit more, or changing a room around/resituating/rearranging things, throwing unnecessary items away, letting some old things go, consolidating items, like boxes and containers can also be a great way to free the mind and give the soul more space to dwell and roam.
  4. Exercise – Find, join, and participate in an aerobics, yoga, martial arts, arts and crafts, dance, drama/theatre, swim, and/or boxing class. These types of classes are great to join as they not only help you to immediately relieve and release, as well as get rid of/provide an outlet for stress, they also condition and focus the mind. So, as you’re getting physically fit you are also getting emotionally fit.
  5. Education – Find out what your triggers are. What sets you off? What makes you fly off the handle or lose control? What distracts you so that you are unable to think and react properly? What is going on in your environment? Who are you interacting with? What is being said or done that you do not like or that sends up red flags and warning signs and signals in your brain? What critical life events have occurred that you may not have dealt with completely? Educating yourself about your personal pressure points is important as it serves to equip you in identifying, facing and warding-off your potential stressors/stresses. Without knowledge we perish. So, educate yourself, protecting yourself against potential stress.
  6. Health – Take your blood pressure reading often, when you are stressed (many grocery and drug stores have free blood pressure reading machines, that only take 5 minutes to test). You can’t “feel” your blood pressure rising, until it is already entirely too high and thus at critical, life-threatening stages. So, take the pro-active route and test yourself regularly, ESPECIALLY when under extreme stress. If you do find that your blood pressure is heading toward unfavorable levels you need to see a doctor immediately, and they will TALK to you about ways to manage your blood pressure. If you find yourself breaking out for no apparent reason, if you find that you are getting sick frequently (once or more in a month, each month) you need to seek medical or psychological help. In some states, you can Google to find the ones in your area, their are 24-hour Nurse lines that are free of charge. Search for one in your area first, if you find one that is not in you locale, you can still contact them and they will help you. The main thing with searching locally is that they will direct you to the resources that are in your direct physical location. Get enough rest at least 8 hours per day and eat/refine your diet. Just tackling these too alone can have impressive results for your stress levels.

Stress is termed, in the medical community, as the “SILENT KILLER”. So, applying these steps can help you to refocus, regain control, manage and in some cases alleviate certain stress/stressors all together. There is no one that can protect you better than yourself, so do right by you and on behalf of your children. Always remember… if you’re stressed your children are stressed. No matter how young they are they can tell and are, in some cases, acutely aware of the fact that you are experiencing  stress. So, follow these steps to get it under control.
